Sounds like CMS is changing its collective mind again...
At the beginning of this month, CMS issued a transmittal that required Part B ambulance providers to begin billing tenths of a mile beginning in January. While we have been waiting for CMS to clarify their intent regarding the handling of mileages of 100 miles or greater -- the American Ambulance Association (AAA) is now reporting that CMS will be rescinding this transmittal. If the transmittal is rescinded, there is no change to the way that providers are currently billing mileage.
According to a release from The AAA, CMS notified AAA of the intent to rescind the transmittal on Friday following a conference call between AAA and CMS staffers earlier in the week.
I'll keep watching the transmittals, and let you know when this is official.
